I agree. Many are severely lacking in maturity. (yes Kelloggz, I'm speaking from personal experience )

    overdose > gravity

no comparison. gravity was hit and miss. overdose gets way more play at the crib.

    Jay-Z is overrated!

In the overall scheme of things dude is C+ or B- if you want to be generous. Anyone who listened to hip hop back in the 90s should recognize this. When Reasonable Doubt dropped it was average. The single Dead Presidents was a little above. It wasn't until he became a multi-millionaire this album was revisited and heralded as one of hip hop's best. If you notice, any overly positive review of this album probably took place over the past five years. I think his financial success is what is mostly to held responsible for the respect he receives within the genre.

Back in the golden age of hip hop bruh was just another rapper...a good one but far from what he is seen as today. After Big and Pac died which created a huge vacuum (through media/corporate influence, etc), it was filled with emcees like Master P (which despite his success isn't fit to be called an emcee) and others like Jay-Z who could rap but was mediocre. If you notice this is about the time his persona changed from "gambino type" canary yellow suits to "hood type" rockawear. Insert commercially successful tracks courtesy of production by Ye and the Neptunes, an industry heavily influenced by boardroom decisions, a genre lacking lyricism and creativity in the mainstream, hyperactive stans, the resulting financial success and voila! An average emcee regarded as one of the best.

    Live long and prosper.

Nope Jay Z is underrated in these currrent times. Why do I say such a thing? Because the the general HH audience always feels the need to put him to the backseat of Nas Em Pac and Big. Thats the epitome of underrating. Nas has a stale and reptetive flow and lacks versatility. Pac cant even rap, B.I.G is debatable..but the current Jay Z surpasses B.I.G when it comes to entendres and wordplay. Im not too familiar with Em's catalog to argue about him.. but point being. We cant disinclude stats in the discussion of G.O.A.T..... Jay is the most versatile, has decent storytelling, his alliteration is on point, he has the presence of legendary status, knows how to space out his deep references to be applicable to the listener. I can go on...But point is Jay Z is the most complete rapper. The epitome of the complete package.

But again humans have this tendency to look with rosy glasses to the the work of the underdog, and look with thorned glasses to the work of the "King". Until that King becomes an underdog to death and is defeated by such, will people start to take the scales off their eyes..and even over romanticize his work.

Anyways Jay has substance, technique, accessibility(both in lyrics and market), presence, and the most paid. I mean if this dont give you the right to call yourself King of Hip Hop....Idk what will

    Really!

My stance was based on looking at hip hop as a whole and not merely comparing Jay to a handful of emcees. If you think dude has "substance" and should be regarded as "King" and can only be defeated by death. I dare not say anything more. Have a nice day K3llogz and continue in God's grace!

Cmon bro ur telling me Jay dont have substance?

The whole metaphor of this song and the personification in this song alone shows impeccable substance

‎"I jus threw on my hoodie and headed to the streets/Thats where I met success we lived together shortly/But success is like lust/She's good to the touch/She's good for the moment but she's never enough/Everybody's had her, she's nothing like V/But success is all I got unfortunately"
