Not taking this out of my sig until Joshua Kennedy puts the Mr.Kennedy adlib at the start of his verses.
2012 Jean Grae is better than 2012 Eminem. 1998 Jean Grae is not better than 1998 Eminem. 2012 Jean Grae is not better than 1998 Eminem.
And "great white hope" is offensive to white people and idicitave that his legend is empty. Dude is more like the great white fact.

It's a fair comparison if you think about them..
..Jean pulls off clever not corny better than Marshall does if you think about it. Conceptually she's stronger (Black Girl Pain, God's Gift). Lyrically she's crisper (Haters Anthem, Nah'mean Namsayin, ), Em has more flows & better delivery, Em is more sophmoric with his sense of humor, Jean is wittier (How To Break Up With Your Girlfriend), Jean conveys emotion better (Fade Out, My Story) and weaves better stories (Taco Day, Destiny).
Em from 98-04 v. Jean 02-08.

Skill for skill 98 em murders jean grae on her best day. You're talking about concepts and sophmoric humor and all that. I'm talking skill for skill.
Yeah he my not have gotten as big if it werent for his skin color, but he still woulda gotten big. Like Big Pun. Pun went platinum just off skill. Nas went plat just off skills. Em woulda gone plat if he was black. He just happened to be white and he went diamond. Dude was doing his thing. I was a huge fan of his before I even found out he was white. Been a fan of Jean since late 90's too. But skill for skill, Em takes it. Which one you'd rather listen to because of content isn't the best way to determine who's the better rapper.

All that being said, Jean is a straight beast and is way more substantial than 90% of musicians of all genres. Bout to listen to her music the rest of my work day.

What do you consider skill? i thought the aforementioned things were demonstrative of skill. Even from a technical standpoint I think she's superior. I think Jean excels at doing Eminem style work better than Em does. And no if Em was black his style of music wouldn't fly who would buy it? He'd be the male Jean Grae. If Em was black they wouldve branded his style "Horrorcore and he'd dissapear into the abyss of irrelevancy."
Eminem would kill pretty much anybody.

Atonement Shai? MM1 & 2 Budden? WGI4C Clipse? Pre-H4M Banks? Jean Grae, Vol 3. & BP1 Jay? Pre F&L Lupe? I think all of the aforementioned could give Slim a run for his money, don't get it twisted he was a beast.

I would play Taco Day then How To Break Up with Your Girlfriend then Destiny & SupaJean & Haters Anthem, if you still intrigued she has albums & mixtapes.. id reccomend Attack of the Attacking Things, Jeanius (OG version), The Bootleg of the Bootleg EP, This Week
Sn: I would love a CHH Jean (doesn't have to be female) I'm open to suggestions, closest I can think in terms of lyricism is Omri, Shai or Evangel, maybe Odd Thomas.

Oh Donald. Jean is black. lol. She's a beast of an emcee. I don't know if she's quite on Em's level but she is better than 95% of all emcees. She's the type of female emcee where you don't refer to her as a female emcee, she's just dope, period. For instance: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/single...ae-kill-screen

Skill has nothing to do with content. Skill is the mastery of words. Just off multi's alone Em kills Jean. Structure. Cadence. Vocab. And when it comes to vocab a lot of people get it twisted and think it's all about big words. I find that irritating. I think it's more impressive to use simplistic words to communicate complex thoughts like Killah Priest or Jay Elect. But either way, Em could use everyman language and still murder multis..and use dictionary words too. Jean may have better song writing abilities and beat selection, but skill for skill, 98 Em eats her food easy.
And history would disagree with you bro. Big Pun also started off as "horrorcore" with his Fulla Clips crew. But his skill got him all the way to platinum. And black and hispanic people didn't buy eminem because he was white. They bought because of skill. What I'm saying is, Em at that time, had such a style and skillset that he would've gone platinum regardless. Just like pun. Just like Nas.
I'm guessin you're kind of young cuz you aren't familiar with the atmosphere back then. Things were less about image and more about skill. Members of Wu Tang had horrorcore elements. Akinele had humor. Mobb had dark. Nas had lyrical. Yet people would still buy them ALL because hip hop wasn't as much about image back then. It was about skill. I mean, think about it, eminem is a corn ball. Rocking rhinestone bandanas and velour sweatsuits. It def wasn't his image that got him so big. Dude WAS a beast. Emphasis on WAS. And so yeah, 98 Em kills Jean easy.
But, when you say things like "he'd be the male Jean Grae," it becomes apparent that we hear lyricism differently. Cuz I've never heard either one sound like the other. And if one did sound like the other, it'd be Jean sounding like Em.

I agree with the 1st bolded part, I never said that Em couldn't spit for the record bro.. Jean made attack ot the attacking things in 02, they were even then by Eminiem Show she was better..
SSEP yes, after MMLP he was gettin them pop sales tho..
I was referring to 2012 though not 1998, 15 years ago nearly.. In hip-hop today could a Black Eminiem thrive?
No argument there, lol.
I never said he was a clone but they have the same elements. Mastery of multis, flow, cadence and vocab.
*yawns* but i've got more unpopular opinions to share..
Id rather listen to Clipse over any other rap duo (Mobb, Outkast, Jada & Styles)

Jay Z's American Gangster is the hip hop Book of Ecclesiastes..
Makes me wonder what Jay's hope is if he keeps reiterating the futility of success
