I would recommend reloaded windows 98. If you have a pentium II machine you can load xp which better and more stable.

ohhh I recommend not upgrading to Vista, wait about a year or so for them to get all the bugs out. Plus you got to make sure that you computer is Vista capable.

You should install some spyware & antivirus programs and boot to safe mode and rum them.

Check out this website for some good free progs to clean your computer.

Go to the security page for the progs.

reloading windows should probly be your last thing to do, just do a simple virus scan plus spyware scan or just do a system restore to lets say the last time you think your computer was acting alright.

Win 98 doesn't have system restore.

when does it cut off? You mean it powers off right? Is there a particular instance it happens, like when you play games for an hour or when you plug in your webcam, ect? Or is just random while your on the internet or just writing an email? Most computer shut downs are hardware related. Could be caused by a whole lot of things so you need to be specific when describing your problem in order to diagnose it.

PS - I doubt its a virus, but having a free virus scanner like AVG Anti-Virus and some spyware cleaners like Ad-Aware wouldn't hurt. unless its the MS Blaster virus that starts a countdown and shuts your computer down after one minute.
